J. Layton Ruffin
Attorney Layton Ruffin joined the Hyman Law Firm in 2011. While born in Florence, his family moved to Murrells Inlet, SC. Layton grew up in Murrells Inlet and attended school in Horry and Georgetown County. After graduating from law school in 2009, he and his wife were brought back to Florence when he accepted a position as a federal law clerk for the Honorable Terry L. Wooten.
Layton graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Law, in the top 5% of his class. He received CALI Awards in Torts II, Contracts I, Criminal Law, and Income Taxation. Additionally, he was a member of the South Carolina Law Review.
Working through law school, Layton served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Margaret B. Seymour, United States District Judge, in Columbia, South Carolina. He also worked for Lewis in Babcock in Columbia and as a summer associate at the Charleston office of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd.
Additionally, Layton received his International M.B.A. from the Darla Moore School of Business in 2009. Through this program he studied Spanish in Guadalajara, Mexico at the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. It also provided him the opportunity to work at the Peruvian law firm Rodrigo, Elias, y Medrano in Lima, Peru.
Layton graduated magna cum laude from the College of Charleston in 2005 with a B.S. in Economics and a minor in Finance.
